Sorry I didn't reply sooner. We only show the warning the first time. We figure that once the user has seen it, they don't want to be told over and over again that it's a problem, as they probably understand it already. If we didn't do it this way, it would be shown for every piece of footage over the limit on every frame rendered, which would be too overwhelming for the user to dismiss.
By the way, this limit is hardware-specific. Some cards have higher or lower limits. I believe the highest-end cards can do either 8k x 8k or possibly even 16k x 16k. However, it's pretty rare that a user would need something that large. Even if you're working on film, that's generally only up to 4k on the longest side.
