Hi Andreas,
When you import a project XML file, FCP will create default clips (in the project's default event) for all assets used by the project. These clips are similar to what you'd get from an Import Files command.
Although this workflow doesn't allow for adjustments or metadata on the clips in the event, you can adjust the clip(s) in your project as you like.
Another option is to construct an event XML file rather than a project one, and add a clip in the event that matches the sequence you would have built if constructing a project. For the user, you could add a keyword to this clip to distinguish it from the other clips in the event. After import, the user could then edit this clip into a new project.
