Actually (the last time I looked) that plist only contains a small number of "modern" post-cocoa file dialog stuff. Everything is in the big mysterious file inside ~/prefs/FCP user data. I imagine the auto save path would be easy to find in a file in there, reliably working out where it occurs could be a challenge.
But you do have the reverse-engineering luxury of knowing that that pref format will never get broken by an update from the vendor!
