I found another huge disadvantage of the system with the Motion Template files for FCP X. A customer just ran into an issue. He is using Motion 5.0.4. The templates of my plugins were created with Motion 5.0.7. When he now tries to run my plugins in his version of FCP X then he gets this message:
"This file cannot be opened because it was created in a newer version of Motion. The file must be opened in Motion 5.0.7 or later."
He cannot update to Motion 5.0.7, because this update is not available anymore. And he does not want to update the newest version, because then he would also need to update to Mavericks, which he doesn't want to do. So basically he is now stuck.
Can I safely just patch this part of the templates (soandso.moef):
<displayversion>5.0.4</displayversion>
...to...
<displayversion>5.0.0</displayversion>
...without creating another issue?
I so wish that FCP X would be capable to run FxPlug plugins natively without the necessity to go through these templates!! The templates are such a hinderance and trouble maker!
