- Thread-topic: [Rockies-Edu] Problem with Leopard not saving to network
When they log in to the network on PCs the drives are mapped
automatically. On the PCs they get a home directory and a teacher directory automatically.
On the Macs they get their home directory mounted automatically and have to
connect manually to the teacher directory but they don’t have to log in
again to get to that drive.
On the teacher side, we normally automount several drives on PCs.
On the Macs we only mount our user drive but not any of the others, nor can we
even get to those drives manually.
We do have one drive set up that is Mac compatible and we can
save to it without any problems but all the others have issues for the students
and occasional problems for teachers.

Hi Phil,
How do the students connect to these networked drives?
Are they logging into them as a home directory, is it automounting a
folder on login, or are they connecting manually?

We
run a mixed system in D11 with Active Directory not quite implemented fully. I
just installed Leopard on machines that have worked fine under Tiger with AD. I
have discovered that with 10.5.8 I am unable to have students save to the
networked drives—designed mainly for PCs. We have mixed domains, students
on two sub-domains and the teachers/administrators on the main domain.
Sometimes teachers also have the problem, but not always. The students always
have the issue. It looks like it saves, but there is no information in the file
when they try to open it. I’m not involved in the network end of things
at all, but trying to support students and find solutions. Is this a problem
that any of you have dealt with in the past for which you have a solution?
