Hi Everyone,
I think we all recognize the inartistic value of mobile devices in the hands of classroom students We have heard great things about iPods increasing Literacy / language acquisition, Math skills, and breaking down the physical walls of the classroom.
Here is another great success story, fully supported by district IT, that is making serious waves in Oregon. Nearly 600 iPods are in the classroom.
This comes from the Canby School District in Canby, OR. Their approach is to educate and empower their teachers to use, deploy and maintain iPods in the classroom.
The district has deployed nearly 600 iPods (nano and Touch, with more on the way) and they are having great success. The teachers have proven that with mentoring, support and training, they can administer iPods. Their comfort with the process is leading to amazing things in their classrooms.
Joe Morelock, the Tech Director, told me that their biggest "ah-hah" moment has been with the iPod nano. The video cameras are being used daily in the classroom.
Look for more from your Apple team this year in terms of iPod in the classroom events! We are working on a iPod literacy event for curriculum and technology decision makers for late next month. Who would like to hear more about that?
