Title: Re: [Rockies-Edu] Mobility accounts to external Hard Drives
Ok, I see some typo errors here or as we say in the IT world “E.B.C.A.K. ERROR” or Error Between Chair And Keyboard” What I’m trying to describe below is I have mobile accounts setup on the student’s external Hard Drive to a Mac OS Extended partition and am have the three issues listed below and am looking for assistance.
Thanks

Hi all, I have an OD environment here for the Graphic Arts and Photography programs at my institution and this year, I set up each student account to be created on a partition formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) without sync and using the local machine user template to build the account. This cleared up several issues with Adobe as far as permissions and working from a networked drive issues and is working well. However I have three issues to speak of:
1. Sometimes when they log in they do not log into their hard drive but are cached to a temp account and their preferences are not saved or available. Can I tell Mac OS 10.6.4 to not log into a cached temp file and wait the External drive to mount?
2. When a student takes their hard drive home and connect to their Mac and create a folder using for example light room, that folder is not allowing their OD account to access that folder when the get back to class, permissions show the owner as unknown and read only for groups and everyone. Is there a way around this simply?
3. I have three Intel Power Macs with OS 10.5 server installed (Do budget to upgrade to OS 10.6) setup with a drop folder which “watches” for jpg files to be dropped in and in turn will print via ImagePrint third party printing software. The problem is when I upgraded (I did not do a fresh install of OS 10.6) of my OD master and all workstations to OS 10.6 this year, the students are no longer able to “save as” from PhotoShop as they were last year when everything was OS 10.5. They are able to save to their hard drive and then drag to the drop folder via a share point but are denied access when they attempt to save as. However, I tested with an OD account same group permissions as the students but not setup to cache home folder on an external drive but is default to the server, all works fine. I can save as from PhotoShop and I can drag and drop. Hummmm.
