In Lion, there is a great ad-hoc file-sharing technology called AirDrop.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/
If you've used it, you might think it's pretty slick. If you've successfully used it when there is no wireless network available, then you're probably wondering how it's pulling off such magic. The trick is that it's a peer-to-peer wifi handshake that happens between two clients. The traffic is encrypted and two users can dynamically find one another (within wifi distance) and transfer a file, from one Mac to another, over the air, with no wifi network.
When I share that, kids say "cool!" and IT folks say "oh no!" No worries…we have options.
Here's how to disable AirDrop. You can send this out with ARD (send unix command), run it on your master machine before imaging, or with Profile Manager.
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -bool YES
Using Profile Manager under the Mac OS X section, go to Restrictions -> Media -> Network Access -> AirDrop.
Enjoy,
Corey
