Sorry, a little late jumping into this but just wanted to add my 2 cents... Corey is right, Ken, there really aren't any other tools that will hammer the server the way real-time users can. You could always use LANtest or iozone in conjunction with tshark/wireshark to capture packet data while you're hitting it with some applescripts or shell scripts or dd.
Go here for a list of opensource performance tools and see if any of these will help: Of course, all of this depends on what exactly you're trying to test - high volume simultaneous connections or what the users are doing while they're connected (Finder actions=mail.app, safari, mounted network directories all accessed at once by one client)?
