All,
We've run into a problem using Commvault's Archive features and changes Apple made in the 10.6.7 (and present in 10.7). We've been saving about 1Tof 1st tier storage in archiving files that are not commonly used in shared and user's network storage drives.
We've licensed the archiving feature since January 2008 and have been using it very successfully. The archived files show up in the network storage as a stub to the file that has been moved to a 2nd or 3rd tier storage device. Both Mac and Pc have worked fine with the stubs (while Commvault recalls the archived file behind the curtain).
The changes in 10.6.7 mean that the stub files are present, but since the file size is 0, OS X considers it harmful (per Apple's comments on a support call). Attempting to open an archived file stub in 10.6.7 or 10.7 gives a damaged file error, and Apple support has called it a "quarantine" feature.
The summary from Commvault (after weeks of correspondence) is they have to talk directly to Apple about it since they don't make Mac products (and further don't have a mac developer on staff). Apple stated they don't do that. Commvault's stance is that it was working fine with every OS that can connect to network storage, and further didn't make any changes that would impact only Mac functionality.
Anyone using Commvault Archiving, and have run into this?
Regards,
David
