Good discussion going on here.
Apple does take security very seriously, but Apple doesn't comment on security issues until investigations are complete. That being said, staying up to date with Software Update is always a good approach.
There has been a Java update, which is now in Software Update. There have been some GUI tools that have been created to help with detection, so end-user communication and up-to-date definitions are key, as usual. One example is what CU posted last Thursday.
