Thanks, Corey. You are probably aware already that our gradebooks (we use PowerSchool, but I think this applies to Infinite Campus as well) rely upon Java. In addition, several districts across the state (including ours) are piloting the CDE's online tests for social studies & science in April, and that test requires Java (they are using Pearson's TestNAV product). Messing with Java without warning could be really disastrous when the entire state will be using it next year for high stakes testing.
It would be awesome if we didn't have to rely upon Java, but our reality is still mired in it for now. . .

Roger,
Your concerns and issues are completely valid. Apple SEs in the field are gathering information from our customers about this impact that this has had. All customers should reach out to your SE and we will gather the appropriate info (enrollment, systems affected, etc) to roll upwards.
Thanks,
Corey

Corey,
I'd like to know how Apple accomplishes something like this? Is it through software update? Does Safari check in with Apple?
Is it only if the Auto Update switch is on in Java Preferences? Obviously there is a way to get past our firewall to make something
like this happen and I think that's of serious concern.

It will…….for all computers at 10.7 or later.
10.6 computers can't run Oracle Java and Apple said the one that they (Apple) provides for the 10.6 machines won't work. It has been deprecated. People must upgrade to get to at least 10.7 for the Oracle fix…. I support the upgrade, but of
