A tidbit from the recent iTunes update (11.0.2).
The latest release of iTunes, version 11.0.2, added support for Caching Server in OS X Server 10.8. In addition to supporting software distributed through the Mac App Store, the Caching Server now supports App and Books downloaded through iTunes on Mac and PC.
Key features of Caching Server:
- No client configuration - Automatic failover - Scalability as needed with multiple servers - Up to 750 simultaneous downloads per server! - Caches Mac App Store purchases, software updates, firmware updates, etc. - Caches Apps and Books purchased through iTunes on Mac or PC
Book and App downloads directly to an iOS device isn't supported at this time. However, this is a great step in the right direction. Updating GarageBand and iMovie alone for your rollouts/updates this summer will benefit from this feature.
Thanks, Corey
