Hi all, Wanted to share an e-mail I sent through the Configurator feedback e-mail address (under the Apple Configurator menu when Configurator is open). We're really struggling with a way to filter iPads off-site without blocking free access points through the HTTP Global Proxy. -Erik
Hi there, This is more of a feature request than feedback, but having a Global DNS option in addition to the Global HTTP Proxy would make a big difference in providing accessibility to our students who do not have Internet access at home. The Colorado Legislature passed a law that requires us to provide Internet filtering for all district-owned devices no matter where they are. The failing of the Global HTTP Proxy is that it blocks Terms of Use agreement pages in locations such as public libraries, coffee shops, and hotels. This makes it impossible to connect to free public access points with the Global HTTP Proxy enabled.
A Global DNS option across all wireless adapters would allow us to use a service such as OpenDNS that would allow the DNS redirect to a Terms of Use agreement so that a device could access a public access point and then still be filtered through a forced DNS server. I know this is bigger than just a Configurator change and would likely require inclusion in a future iOS update, but would be a huge selling point as we investigate a 1:1 device implementation. Thanks for your time!
