Jonathan--When I click 'never update device', a user error window appears and AC won't do anything.

I emailed last week about Configurator wiping our devices. That is ongoing, and I talked to Apple support for one hour yesterday. They have no idea why this is happening.
I have tried both supervised and unsupervised devices. These devices had 7.0.3 on them. When I try not to update via Configurator, an error box appears saying something like I cannot enter recovery mode as it is set to never update. If I update to 7.0.4, it erases everything. So I am still stuck and unable to add apps without deleting all the students' work. Under preferences the box 'automatically refresh' is unchecked.
I updated one iPad manually to 7.0.4, connected it to Configurator, and it still 'added' 7.0.4 again and erased all student work.
Last Tuesday, before 7.0.4 came out, I successfully added apps to some iPads via Configurator.
Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone added apps with Configurator since Thursday afternoon?

Kelly,
I recently spoke to Apple about AC issues and iOS updates. Apparently, if you supervise an iPad and the user runs the update vs. it going through AC, it doesn't get activated in the same fashion. So that's why AC is installing the iOS. Though if it's already supervised, are you able to run the iPad(s) through AC and choose "never update device." I've been having a lot of issues with AC lately myself regarding restrictions working/not working properly.
