Hi Corey+,
We use Dell/KACE Management System for computer inventory (Mac/PC/Linux), software licensing management and software distribution. We are adding SCCM capabilities. We use Apple Server’s Profile Manager for iOS devices and are evaluating other MDM solutions.
We use InterMapper for network monitoring and mapping. We also use NetDisco for network traffic monitoring. Aruba wireless has reporting capabilities too.
Apple may not publish their list of MAC addresses but IEEE keeps a list here updated daily. There are currently 269 Apple MAC address groups listed:

Subject: [Rockies-Edu] Gathering stats about your wireless clients
Greetings,
I’ve visited with many of you over the past few years, and at some point, we always end up discussing numbers. How many Macs do you have? How many Windows PCs? How many iPads, Chromebooks, etc? How many rogue APs?
And if you’re in Higher Ed, you get the fun bonus categories: How many Wii/Xbox/PlayStation units? How many kids in the dorms have wifi-enabled printers?
When I ask about your numbers, and how you get them, the answer is never easy. It usually combines more than one solution; “Well, we have cacti for all things wired, but we use our Cisco controllers to get us the wireless client info. We then take that and give it to Larry, who cooks us up a report in FileMaker or Excel.” Okay, you’re inventory person might not be Larry, but you get the idea.
My question: What tools/solutions do you use to get the numbers representing what’s on your network?
Your question: Why doesn’t Apple publicly post it’s hardware addresses so that we can more easily search for them?
My response: I don’t know. But still, I’d like to know what tools you use.
