- Thread-topic: Annoying Photos App on OS X
I have a bit of a problem. In our district, we have around 2800 iPads being managed. Granted, we use Apple’s DEP and Lightspeed’s MDM, I occasionally still have to restore iPads using iTunes. I rely on OS X, and have run into an issue. Whenever I plug in an iPad or iPhone, the pesky Photos app automatically launches. I know that I can tell Photos to not launch on a per device basis, but when I have as many devices to manage as I do, that’s not a solution. I need a way to tell Photos to not launch when any i-Device is plugged in.
I have spent a bit of time googling and trying different things, but I can’t find a solution. I have given myself root access and tried deleting Photos.app, which doesn't work as it seems that Photos is totally “baked” into the OS.I gave myself sudo access via the terminal and tried deleting it with the proper commands, and was told I didn’t have permission to modify that directory. I booted into Ubuntu off a flash drive, and still was unable to delete Photos.app. I don’t necessarily want to delete the app, but at this point, without a setting to disable the app, it seems like a decent solution.
The other reason I want to find a way to disable this app, is that when I plug a cart into a Macbook and go to configure 30 iPads via Configurator, I have to close Photos 30 times before I can use Configurator.
There was an option to disable the Photos/Image Capture app, in Mavericks and earlier versions of OS X, but it seems with Yosemite, we lost that privilege. When managing this many iPads, it seems absolutely insane that I don’t have a way to disable the Photos app from popping up, let alone deleting it entirely.
Am I missing something? Is there a really simple solution I overlooked? What can I do about this?
Thanks
Josh Sachs
