Hi Cat,
You may want to just see if yours is having problems before updating. We updated ours in mid-July, but we're still having a token problem with one of our three VPP accounts we have set up after updating the token and forcing a reload of our VPP data from Apple. At this point, it may or may not have anything to do with the license agreement. It does seem suspicious that it started in the middle of the day, though! We're using Absolute Manage.
You should be able to test by trying to install a VPP paid application that isn't already associated with your Apple ID. We got a big exclamation point next to our problem token as well (in the Absolute Manage console), but that will vary from MDM to MDM, I'm sure.
