I donât know who out there is using the preview/beta release of Apple School Manager (ASM), but Iâve learned a lot lately and thought Iâd share some helpful info.. I hope this is helpful to some of you!
Â
Creating Classes:
·        If you donât have a way to connect your SIS, youâll be uploading a CSV through the âSetup Assistantâ piece of the site. On the setup assistant page, you can download the CSV templates for students, instructors, classes, etc.
·        For classes, each row in the CSV is to create a single class. The field where you list students in the final column CANNOT HAVE SPACES in it. Each user ID/name must be separated by commas with no spaces.
·        Once you upload the CSV, you click on continue in the setup, then get a new window where you click on confirm in the lower right. YOUâRE NOT DONE!!
·        The next step is the Create Accounts & Classes: Click on the preview option, check it, then click on the create managed apple IDs. Only then, will you actually get the IDs created.
Â
Resetting Passwords:
·        This process requires two-factor authentication if you try signing in to iCloud on the web. Hereâs the process I went through:
1.      In ASM, click on Individuals on the left and find the entry on the right
2.      Click on MORE and choose Reset Password. This will output the user ID and a temp password:
3.      Log in to iCloud on an apple device (I used an iPad) with the temp password and youâll be prompted to change the password. Note that you cannot use previous passwords at all.
4.      Open iCloud on the browser and sign in with the ID and new password created. It will then ask for two factor authentication.
5.      Find the user back in ASM and in their user profile, click on Verification Code and choose print or email. If you choose email, it sends the email to the address listed on that studentâs user profile in ASM. Pop in the 6 digit code and you should be able to sign in.
Â
The process is tedious, very back-and-forth and I donât know why two-factor authentication is set. Thereâs no way to turn that off that Iâve found, nor did the Enterprise support person I spoke with, know where to turn it off or why it was even on.
