Hi All,
You may have seen this headline, and I do advise you to read the press release:
Jamf Integrates with Google Cloud Identity to Secure and Streamline the Login
Experience for End Users
https://www.jamf.com/resources/press-releases/jamf-integrates-with-google-cloud-identity-to-secure-and-streamline-the-login-experience-for-end-users/
Jamf Connect is a relatively new product that now allows teachers and students
to use their Google username and password at the macOS login window. This new
functionality in Jamf Connect will benefit admins who use Google as their
primary username and password. Apple likes this because Jamf supports the
solution very well, and some schools would prefer to only manage the Google
username and password for Mac access in the district.
Most (especially large) K12 schools use Microsoft Active Directory to
standardize teacher and student usernames and passwords, which flow down to
Google so they can use Google services. In this case, admins prefer to only
manage the AD usernames and passwords. Jamf Connect also supports AD, and the
AD successor, Azure AD (Apple School Manager can sync aka “federate” Azure AD
usernames and passwords). With the addition of Google authentication, Jamf
Connect becomes a fantastic solution to link your Mac to an external username
and password.
Jamf Connect is a standalone product that works with MDMs other than Jamf or
Zuludesk.
Happy to answer any questions you have about this!
Thanks,
-Mike
