I want to install Web Object on my home machine (G4 450MHz, 512 meg of RAM), but before I do that, I would like to know if WebObjects loads the CPU and the RAM a lot. Does it takes just RAM and use CPU just when it is needed??? Or should I install it on a dedicated machine???

I'm typing on my PowerBook G3/500 with 256 MB RAM while I'm building and testing a WO application. FrontBase, also running on my PowerBook, is being accessed by this WO app. I keep CPU Monitor running in the upper right corner of my menu at all times. My WO development system is plenty fast, so yours should be fine.

During development, no WO process other than the development tools runs continuously, so WO doesn't impose a constant load on a development system. Development mode doesn't typically use a Web server, so you don't even need to run Apache for WO development. So a WO app, just like a desktop app, requires RAM and CPU cycles only when it's running.

However, if you plan to deploy your WO app, you need to size the deployment platform based on expected traffic, etc.
