I'm cross-posting this from the omnigroup list. Apologies if that means
you've received it twice....
I did get one suggestion that removing the CLASSPATH environment variable
might do the trick, but I didn't have one in the first place.
Thanks,
Alex

Subject: Can't build 5.2 projects on Windows XP
I have installed WO5.2 on Windows XP and am finding that I can't build
anything with ProjectBuilder (PBWO!). It works fine on Windows 2000. I've
tried building the example projects and my own basic WebObjects Application
project. This is the output I get when I try and build:
=================================================
== Making hello for ==
Pre-build setup...
C:/Apple/Developer/Executables/javatool.exe -javac
C:/jdk1.3.1_06/bin/javac.exe -classpath
";C:\Apple\Library\Frameworks\JavaFoundation.framework\Resources\Java\javafo
undation.jar;C:\Apple\Library\Frameworks\JavaXML.framework\Resources\Java\ja
vaxml.jar;C:\Apple\Library\Frameworks\JavaEOControl.framework\Resources\Java

ces\Java\javaeoaccess.jar;C:\Apple\Library\Frameworks\JavaWOExtensions.frame

Objects.framework\Resources\Java\javawebobjects.jar;" +classpath
"/temp/hello/hello.build/ejb_server_classes" -extdirs
"C:/Apple/Local/Library/WebObjects/Extensions;C:/jdk1.3.1_06/jre/lib/ext"
-newer -copy -file_map
/temp/hello/hello.build/derived_src_java/FileMappings.plist -java_src
/temp/hello/hello.build/derived_src_java -java_obj
/temp/hello/hello.build/java_classes Application.java DirectAction.java
Session.java Main.java
C:AppleLibraryFrameworksJavaXML.frameworkResourcesJavajavaxml.jar: not found
make: *** [export-java-classes-server] Error 127
=================================================
My immediate and obvious conclusion was that the back-slashes in the
-classpath should be forward-slashes. I hacked the makefiles in order to
make this change and the build broke in the same place with the error:
C:/Apple/Library/Frameworks/JavaXML.framework/Resources/Java/javaxml.jar:
not found
That jar definitely exists in that location. I then got desparate and tried
"\\" which caused some really weird output. The pre-built WO apps, such as
wotaskd and Monitor run and function normally on the XP machine.
I went through the same installation on Windows 2000 and it works just fine
on there. That has back-slashes in the -classpath too.
This is my first time installing any version of WO on XP, but I know others
have had success with earlier versions. This is also my first experience of
WebObjects 5.x. I don't have 5.1, so I can't see if that works. I'm looking
forward to trying out developing with WOLips, but first I'd really like to
get the out of the box stuff working.
I'm presuming this is actually a problem relating to WO (or javac) on XP.
Ideas anyone? Could there be a more general explanation for the problem? I'd
be extremely grateful for any advice.
Thanks,
Alex
