Just to say hi to the list. Anyone got any ideas for good places to start for newbies, with lots of web design expertise?
work through the Web Applications tutorial at http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/webobjects/Web_Applications/ index.html

Since Collette doesn't say anything about programming experience, I would first recommend looking at Apple's "Java for WebObjects Developers":
<http://homepage.mac.com/mmalc/Docs/java4wo.pdf>
This will help evaluate your programming skills to ensure you're prepared to start with WO in the first place. After that, then work through the Apple tutorials; you might also look at some of the online resources -- <http://www.stepwise.com/> for example...

Also take a look at the Direct to Web docs

I would recommend against that unless you're absolutely sure that all you will ever do is create CRUD apps. Although powerful technology, D2W is only really fully comprehensible in the context of an understanding of basic WO. I would suggest concentrating on the fundamentals for a while before getting distracted by the rules engine.
