What's component unroll?

Hi,

I'm doing some work with DirectToWeb at the moment and noticed almost everything has _unroll bound to true. Does anyone know what unroll does? There's two undocumented methods in WOComponent that mention unroll. Should I add _unroll to my custom templates/components?
