Newbie Q: Java Client on Mac OS 9?

I am developing my first WO solution, and thinking about using Java Client,
since it's a small group of users within one department, within a fast
intranet.
However, I'm having trouble finding any information about Java Client
running on Mac OS 9. Everything I read says it "work great on Macintosh" --
meaning OS X. Some of our users are being slow to upgrade to OS X, so I
don't want to bank on a client that works on OS X only.
I see that Java Client works only on Java 1.3, and the latest version of the
Java for OS 9 is 1.1.3
I'm assuming I'm sol, unless I can go force upgrades to OS X. Could someone
shed some light?
Also, while I'm on the subject, is there any limit to Java Client on Win98,
2000, NT, XP that I should also know about?
