Which Mac for a Windows Guru?

Hey, Everyone!

Any feedback or advice to this email would be GREATLY appreciated. I need
to know which Mac to buy.

I am a senior Microsoft developer with about 20 years of experience under my
belt. I know NOTHING about Macs but have been wanting one for many years.
In fact, I have replaced many of my system files on my Windows XP machine to
emulate OS X.

Here is my dilemma.

I want a Mac but I don't want to lose productivity in the Microsoft world.
I cannot abandon my existing customers. I know I can run VirtualPC to
continue my Windows development, but I am curious as to how well it runs
(speed, reliability, etc.). I primarily do web development using
VisualStudio.NET (using ASP/ASPX, XML, SOAP, SQL Server, etc.) and also
build many compiled applications using C# and VB.NET (and still some older
VB development using Visual Basic v6.0).

Will I be successful if I go with the top-of-the-line iMac with 1GB of RAM?
Do I need a G4 processor or will the iMac's 800 MHz G3 be enough? I am
currently using a 1.2 GHz PIII so I would rather not suffer from a big
performance hit.

If it works out, I may start moving from the Microsoft world to developing
for the Mac and Linux platforms as well. I just know I want a Mac.

Again, ANY advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Fred Lackey
