Sorry for the late reply (just back from overseas trip).

Omni's WebObject mailing lists are already mirrored on GMANE (a mailing
list to news bridge).  It works great, checkout www.gmane.org !

Unfortunately, Apple would not allow a bridged mailing list version of
their WebObjects mailing list - I guess they lose some control (but the
posts are in the "public domain" anyway?).

GMANE is great, it allows you to read and respond to mailing lists
using newsgroup software, but still requires you to be on the mailing
list to post etc.

It's great to get all those mailing lists (which are still very
important) out of my mailbox and into a newsgroup (where they belong).
Reduces load on my mailserver downloads too ...

Yes, definite interest. I bet a newsgroup format would encourage more
participation and I too prefer it to exchanging information via a
mailing list.
