Subprojects in 5.2

Did something change about subprojects? I have an application that I am
trying to create a subpoject in to organize the code, but am unable to add a
subproject. When I click on subproject the 'new' is greyed out and only the
'add' is available. Is there some trick to adding a subproject in 5.2? I saw
nothing in the docs on adding one.
