Dumb question, but where are these logs?

LOL, not so dumb a question... typically log files should go to /var/log on almost all Unix/BSD systems, but I think MySQL might be one of the many exceptions to this rule. Do a search on google for "MySQL logs" and look at the results. One of the articles should hint at the location (that's what I usually do).
