How are you maintaining Client Schemas?

Hi All,

Am beginning to think about how one should handle updates of databases out in the field for something like a commercial application. Keeping a product updated with all of the changes from one release to another can sometimes be tedious and error prone if not careful. I tend to usually run a diff against the scripts from the target database and my 'golden' model to ensure that all is well for both the pre and post update. Since EOM kind of discourages messing with SQL code, wondering if I'm thinking Neanderthal on this particular.

I'd be interested in hearing how others are keeping their various client databases up-to-date and/or upgraded. Using EOM? What about installations that refuse to open up appropriate ports in their firewalls for this type of activity? Most IT organizations that I've worked with aren't too inclined to open their firewalls for anyone, especially a third party. Regardless, I don't even know what port EOM requires to be open - would love to know that particular too.

I'm still developing locally here - but will be needing to deploy my first prototype shortly.

Any updating methodologies that others are using - I'd love to hear about!

Thanks...Bob
