Don't take Cliff's word for it: Apple doesn't support Solaris x86,
which doesn't mean that it wouldn't work. For a long time, Apple didn't
support linux (probably still doesn't) and yet it works. FreeBSD is the
same story.
Just to reassure you, would linux be an option on your servers?
