Oops! I forgot to change the address to send to the list, not just Chuck. Just in case it's useful, here's the latest. BTW, my request for referrals to good supplementary documentation/reference stuff stands; I'll post a list of any responses on my website for everyone's convenience. Thanks!

I'm absolutely not trying to be difficult. I promise.

How do I check this? The documentation isn't clear, but I can view
com.webobjects.jdbcadaptor.MySQLPlugin in JavaBrowser.

This needs to be on the classpath when your app launches, but (and this is
real important!) NOT in /Library/Java/Extensions. If you have a WO
framework for this, add it to your projects. Otherwise, I'd try dropping
it in (cribbing from Win2K) /Local/Library/WebObjects/Extensions
Okay, I found the right files. This class is contained within jdbcadaptor.jar, which is part of the JDBCAdaptor framework, which is (already) in my project. I tried putting a copy of the jar in /Library/WebObjects/Extensions, and that didn't work either.
I'd forgotten that is now part of WO. It used to be third party. I think... What you really want to do, in this case, is to ensure that the JavaJDBCAdaptor framewrork is added to your application's frameworks. I would expect this to already be the case... Something very odd is going on.

I've been trying to test the database connection from a new project,
but every time I create a new project, it says "Run session cancelled:
No launchable executable present to run" regardless of whether it
involves a database or not. I just uninstalled and reinstalled
WebObjects, but nothing has changed. Could these problems be related?

I don't know. That sounds more serious, like the project is not getting
built or the launcher is looking in the wrong place.
*(W%&#^)#!@#$%!#.... I'll try to find something on this, though if anyone has suggestions, they would be appreciated.
I think you only sent this message to me. I don't use PBheX so I've very little useful advice. Try cleaning and re-indexing the project. Otherwise, ask on one of the WO dev lists. Someone will know the proper spell to cast.

Bad things like this seem to happen if you get too aggressive updating OSX. Often tool / OS updates break WO. :-(

I think I need more references & documentation. The stuff supplied by Apple is fine as far as it goes, but it's not enough to learn WebObjects in detail. Anyone have suggestions?
No, not really. Look through the example apps, read the on-line docs, buy one of the books. Struggle. Don't worry - it is not you, it really is difficult. There is, however, a fine reward...
