Nope. We're talking about the "EOQualifier language" here. I don't
know what better to call it. But the un-named and largely
un-documented mini-language you write in for the first argument to
EOQualifier.qualifierWithQualifierFormat. I guess we could call it
the "qualifier format language", then.
It's in this context that "nil" has meaning, and in this context "="
is the equivelence operator, not "==".
