I would try adding this to your apps constructor instead:
setCGIAdaptorURL("http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/WebObjects");
You should also be able to use localhost instead of 127.0.0.1
I'm pretty sure that will fix this. You can do the /etc/hosts thing, but
you'll have to modify that on each machine every time your IP address
changes. I used to have to do this when not connected to a network in the
pre-safari days; IE didn't seem to like the localhost thing and this was the
only way to get it to work. The other thing you might be able to try is
disabling Rendezvous in Directory Access, but then you'd lose any ability to
use Rendezvous services, which, given that you're on a primarily PC network,
are pretty much non-existent anyway. Hope that helps.
