Just one more question: setting the JVM memory size. Is setting the
jvm parameters like -Xms50M and -Xmx200M in Monitor's "Additional
Arguments" the way to go?
Yes.
Another way to do this (I think! someone tell me if this in fact
won't work for some reason!) is to set those arguments as JVM options
of the application project itself. In OSX 10.2.8 Project Builder (it
is likely similar in Panther/XCode), go to the _main_ target for the
application, click on it, look at Settings/Expert View, and you'll
see a "JVM_OPTIONS" variable, with an empty value. You can add the
arguments there, as well, and it will be built into the compiled
product such that the app is always started with these arguments.
I'm 95% sure this works. Someone please tell me if it doesn't for
some reason (it would certainly explain why my app seems to get
OutOfMemory from time to time despite the fact that I keep upping the
max heap size! But I think in fact my app just occasionally wants
lots of memory, for reasons I have yet to determine, and I am
succesfully increasing the max heap size).

Thanks, I will also have a look at your "shamelessPlug" as soon as
it hits the shelves ;-)
It's always nice to see some more books on WO!
