In case anyone cares, I have solved this problem by using a direct action. It is more complex that the original implementation, but it works. Apparently direct action responses do not get cached.

I am streaming several images pages that get returned. It appears that they are being added to the page cache and that causes problems when there are several image. I was wondering if there is a way to block a component from being cached in a session's page cache.
thanks, tom
