See comments/suggestions below (not sure if you know Java OOP or not,
so ignore my comments related to that if you are already
experienced).......

Hi all,
I am fairly new in here and try to acquire all possible infos for a
jump start in WO development. My name is Magnus Rembold and I give
lectures at the University for Applied Sciences and Arts in Zurich,
Switzerland where we have some late snow in the moment. I try to set
up a tracking system for our students, lectures, exams and so on...
and that all should report to our website as well...
Jacquie Barker's book "Beginning Java Objects" actually builds its
lessons around a SRS (Student Registration System) whoch tracks
students, classes, courses, transcripts, etc .... it may be of great
benefit to get the object design for your system correct and see basics
of java
Now I've got some questions:
- How do I integrate a stylesheet into a WebApplication?
Search the list archives (try omnigroup webobjects development list
too) ... this topic has been covered a number of times and off the top
of my head I do not have a quick answer on CSS in WO, but is definitely
possible.
I learned that there is a wrapper component, so I added in the header
a link to a stylesheet, but I don't know how to reference to the
stylesheet file. All paths and URL's I tried don't get to the
stylesheet files I added to my project.
- Is there a FAQ for Beginners to WebObjects?
Get the Joshua Marker WebObjects Visual QuickPro developer guide at
www.amazon.com ..... this book is totally a "How to..." book with step
by step instructions and screenshots ....... very easy/quick to use as
an FAQ book.
It is such a huge system and there is so little documentation to more
than baby-tutorial questions, that I thought a solution database or
FAQ database would make sense.
- Is it commonly known, that you need a separate DB license to deploy
with WO?
Not necessarily a license, just a database that WebObjects that is ANSI
SQL-92 compliant running on some host at some port. Preferably you
should use a database that is qualified by Apple (which means tested
and there is no major issues) to use with WebObjects. Also note that
you may not really need a database with lots of features since
WebObjects provides enough functionality that you may not need those
vendor specific features (in fact using those extra DB features may
cause conflicts with WO .... like "too many cooks spoiling the broth")
See the compatability guide here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=72598
I thought, all components you need are in the WO package, but learned
(the hard way) that I have to buy an additional DB license to deploy
my projects, since OpenBase 7 (included) doesn't run on Panther unless
you refresh your license... (means buying or going with a throttled
version)
I recommend the Open Source database MySQL (http://www.mysql.com), but
does require a little command line to get it setup.
You can then use the Cocoa MySQL GUI
(http://cocoamysql.sourceforge.net/) after that if you prefer not to
use the command line.
Thanks in advance for your answers,
best regards,
Magnus
