Answers:
1. NO ...... JDK 1.4.1 already installed as part of Panther ..........
do not download Sun JDK! Apple provides JDK for Mac OS X as an
integrated component. By the way, you will be using Java in WebObjects
....... WebObjects is primarily built around a Java Framework. If you
are new to Java, then learn it and OO (very important) using Jacquie
Barker's book "Beginning Java Objects"
2. Forget about Java 1.4.1 Update 1 unless it is presented in the
Software Update tool as an available update. In general, let the
Software Update panel in System Preferences decide what updates you
need and let it do the installations for you.
If you followed the instructions, you are now ready to start WebObjects
development. Start with Apple Tutorial (Web Applications)

Kieran / Drew,
Thanks so much for pointing that out. I actually read that tech note
but... well... didn't really READ it, I guess.
Two more questions, if it's okay...
1. Under "System Profile / Software / Applications," the only mention
of Java is "Java 1.4.1 Plugin Settings." I see nothing that mentions
the JDK. Do I need to install anything else (maybe the JDK) if I want
to use Java in WebObjects?
2. One of the dialogs in the "Java 1.4.1 Update 1" pack notes that the
"Development Tools 2002" is required. In fact, you cannot install it
because they are not present on the box. Do I need to install this
even though I'm running Panther & XCode?
Thanks again.

After Panther, Install XCode from the installer CD
Referring to apple tech note 107649...
Install WO Developer 5.2 after XCode
Run Software Update
- updates should include WO 5.2.2
