As a first guess, it could be an encoding issue in the component where
the format is encoded differently than in the page. I've also found
that the numberFormatter is easier to work with and more flexible than
the numberFormat binding.

I have a numberformat for a WOString in one of my pages that takes a
double. My html output has a small "square" where the $ should be but
the rest of the formatting is done correctly.
