Virtual Hosting with WebObjects

  • Subject: Virtual Hosting with WebObjects

In the M$ world, it is quite easy to virtually host any number of web
sites on a single server. ISPs will often use something like "Windows
Scripting Host" to automate the tasks of creating virtual directories,
assigning permissions, creating accounts, etc. Additionally, most M$
ISPs will use "header redirection" to direct a client browser to a
specific directory (or web site) based on the content of the requested
server name. Are these types of things possible with WebObjects on OS
X Server? If so, how?

Several months ago I made it a point to look at all of the WebObjects
hosts I could find to see if they offered such a thing and they did
not. A few offered to talk with me on the phone and never answered
this question directly. Most simply gave generic statements like,
"WebObjects is too costly to do that" or "We don't want to be a M$
shop." Being a geek, those answers never sat well with me. I am
hoping that someone could give me a more detailed/logical explanation.

Thanx,
Ryan
