associate subcomponent to parent componet

Hi all,
Is there any way by which I can associate a subcomponent to a method in
the parent component. I mean I have a submit button in my subcomponent.
Now can I associate the action in the parent component to this button.
I know this is a foolish question. But my design forces me to do this.
I will be thankful if someone could tell em if this is really possible.
