algorithm for refining a search

  • Subject: algorithm for refining a search

This is probably a really stupid question but the answers, i'm sure, will be worth listening to:
How can I refine a qualifier to be able to read a question string in a single search box much like google and still be able to come up with feasable results?

Is this a case of a clever computer scientist writing an elaborate algorithm or can anyone write these things?

With the single search box that I have all I can do is an 'OR' search on one property at a time and if I try using an 'AND' qualifier it does not work in a single search box... unless I'm doing something wrong.

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks In Advance
Jonathan :^)
