If you feel you understand C well and want a quick start on Java, look
for "Differences Between C and Java" in O'Reilly's "Java in a
Nutshell". In my copy of the 3rd Edition, it's on page 80; it's short
enough that you could read it in the bookstore :).
Read everything you can from Apple's online WO docs. Then when you get
stuck you can send questions to this list :).
Cocoa, Obj-C and XML are only tangentially related to learning WO,
although interesting and worthwhile topics in and of themselves.
Design Patterns doesn't directly relate to WO, it's about good object
oriented practices in general. So read it if you want to become a
better rounded developer, but it won't help you get your first WO app
running.
I haven't read any of the books devoted to WO, maybe someone else can
comment on those.
Good luck,
