I used GLUE getting on for 2 years ago and it was streets ahead of anything
else I tried, the Apache SOAP stuff was terrible, but this was before Axis
and the WO integration. I used GLUE to provide dynamic SOAP service access
to EOModel data, so that we could model all our data in EOF and use
front-end mod_perl stuff to do querying (don't ask), and GLUE made it
feasible.
There was an issue to do with it using ivars instead of methods and so I
couldn't use plain EOGenericRecords, but its HTTPSession stuff made it
possible for me to bridge GLUE object cache with EOF cache and get decent
performance. (Can't remember the details too well I'm afraid.)
I've no idea what it's like now as Apple effectively rendered what I'd done
unnecessary by integrating the Axis code into WO (thus negating 6 months'
work - but I guess it's good to be vindicated), and I haven't looked at it,
or in fact worked on anything serious with SOAP, since then. However judging
on what GLUE was like 2 years ago, I'd guess it's pretty darn smart by now.
I might try to have a look at it to see where it's at.
All that said, I'd also be really interested to know what the D2WS stuff is
like, if it's solid it could make what I did even more pointless ;-)
Good luck,
Igor

Dear all,
From some recent postings on the list, it would appear that folks are
starting to provide Web Services interfaces into Web Objects
applications. I am looking to do the same - I want to develop a rich
client which would then call business functionality on a Web Objects
server using SOAP protocols. There are obviously several ways to do
this - the Direct to Web Services way; the non-Direct to Web Services
approach which would utilise the web services frameworks provided; or
perhaps by using a third party provider toolkit like Web Methods GLUE
toolkit.
Are there are any views and opinions on what the best way might be to
go - always bearing in mind that the first answer that I know I'm
likely to get is "it depends what you are wanting to do..."! Has anyone
used the GLUE toolkit successfully? Has the D2WS toolset been used in
anger at all?
Grateful for any opinions that anyone might offer.
With best regards,
-- Steve
