I have been working with a D2W project and learning how it presents
the data based on an eomodel. I'worked with the web assistant to
modify a fiew field arrangements. D2W is quite amazing.
I have a few questions now....
1. To get rid of the web assistant do I just coment out the code in
the main.wo component?
2. A D2W app allows complete control of the data - is there a way to
allow one set of users the full access and then another set of users
just search capabilities on the data using the same app?
Editability of data can be controlled by means of the rule system.
Remember you have access to the session through the rule system, and
thus, than you can write rules enabling or desabling data editability
depending on current user status (admin, plain user, etc.).
This is pretty well covered in D2W ans D2JC documentation and examples.
Take a look at the DiscussionBoard example, although this is D2JC
example, and keys can be different from D2W, you will find there a lot
of rules dealing with data access.
D2W and D2JC seem simple at the first glance, but you need to
understand the whole thing to get the most ot of it. Apple
documentation (very goog now) is a starter. I recommend the WROX book
("Professional WebObjects 5.0 with Java") on this topic. Finally, if
you decide to use D2W for anything serious, you will shortly realise
that Project Wonder is your best friend.
