newbie: D2W tutorial doesn't work - help!

I am trying to get something going here. I couldn't get my D2W application to not blow up; so I went back to the tutorial, and it BLEW UP, ah..raised exceptions:

Error:
com.webobjects.foundation.NSKeyValueCoding$UnknownKeyException: [ valueForKey()]: lookup of unknown key: 'visibleEntityNames'. This WOComponent does not have an instance variable of the name visibleEntityNames or _visibleEntityNames, nor a method of the name visibleEntityNames, _visibleEntityNames, getVisibleEntityNames, or _getVisibleEntityNames

Reason:
[<com.webobjects.appserver.WOComponent name: MenuHeader subcomponents: null > valueForKey()]: lookup of unknown key: 'visibleEntityNames'. This WOComponent does not have an instance variable of the name visibleEntityNames or _visibleEntityNames, nor a method of the name visibleEntityNames, _visibleEntityNames, getVisibleEntityNames, or _getVisibleEntityNames

Is this typical? that the TUTORIALS explode? The tutorial for D2W, of course, talks about project builder, but I don't think that is an option, is it? Is that because the documentation for WebObjects has not be updated for Xcode? The tutorial is:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/WebObjects/Developing_With_D2W/index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP30001015

I am osx 10.3.5 and WebObjects currently v 5.23 and v 1.5 xcode ide, Java 1.42. It could be just my machine....or is it everybody's?

The release notes for D2W say:

Radar #2274611

DirectToWeb raises on custom or non-existent keys.

Description:

An EOUnknownKey exception can be raised when you run a DirectToWeb application. This behavior is due to either a mistyped key in the Web Assistant or the removal or renaming of an attribute or relationship in EOModeler.

Workaround:

Using the Web Assistant's expert mode, select the task/entity pair for which you're getting an exception and hide the key that is causing the problem.

I can't even get to the web assistant.

My machine did have older software which has been upgraded (Jaguar to Panther), could that be the problem? Would re-installing everthing from scratch allow D2W to work? or is this up to Apple to fix?

Thanks to all for your attention.
