I just said "screw it" and re-installed (actually down-graded to 5.2.2). The optimistic locking errors are gone now. Hopefully, the re-install will fix some of the other ugly problems that appeared over the past few days. I'm still not sure what caused this break. There haven't been any installs or updates of anything else. Of course, it had to happen two days before a major deployment :)

That exception should be the result of a DB operation.  Enable SQL
logging and find which UPDATE statement is failing.  Then try to
isolate which column(s) are not matching the DB.

Have you updated anything recently (OS, Java version, JDBC driver,
plugin, WO version, valueType in EOModel)?

I've seen something similar, and if memory serves, unchecking some of
the columns used for matching and locking records in the eomodeler that
aren't really that relevant can help alleviate this problem.
