Look at the DiscussionBoard example. It uses specifications a lot, and deals with menus. A lot of freezing involved though.

The "Desktop Applications" book glosses over specifications a bit.
There's a reference to them, then it says "look later in the book".
Later in the book, it says "look back in the book". What I'm trying to
do is get rid of the Query window and build the menus based on login
information. The only way I've seen to get rid of the query window is
to override default specs. The book shows how to override it with a
null array. However, that gets rid of all the menus.   How do I
override default specifications but still load the menus? Or is there
another way to get rid of the query window?
