Build & Run Issue

When ever I build and run from within the dev environment, it always tries
to run the application with the following URL:

http://<servername>:<portnumber>

I always have to change the servername to have a .local extension:

http://<servername>.local:<portnumber>

Can anyone tell me how I can either configure WO to add the .local
extension or have the server resolve without the .local extension?
