Just go for the source download and compile/install!!

With the source, you can browse the source projects to understand in detail what a class or method really does when/if the API docs don't provide enough enlightenment .... and it's a lot easier to troubleshoot exceptions when Project Wonder is in the stack trace and you have the source to find out what was going on. Also with source, you can insert log statements in Project Wonder to help you figure out a problem. ... And, the source code for Wonder is very, very educational since it provides examples of code that interacts with so many aspects of the WebObjects frameworks that it provides lots of "how to" accomplish this or that with WebObjects.

Instructions for CVS download/compile/install are here.

Just remember that it is important to look at the Properties file in PW frameworks that you use to understand what is configurable. If you don't understand the property, then just open the source project and search for the property string to understand how it is used. You can copy the framework Properties contents into your own application Properties file and configure the settings there since your app Properties file over-rides the same properties in framework Properties files.

Ok, so I'm setting up a dev environment and I want to try out this magical Project Wonder, or at least look it over. I found Kieran's instructions for installing the latest source, and he mentions having instructions for installing from binaries too though so far I have not been able to find them. My question to you all is whether it is better to install from binaries, from the release tag in CVS, or the latest bleeding edge source?

BTW I had no trouble installing 5.2 and updating to 5.2.4 on Tiger. Haven't tried to use it yet, though.

thanks,

janine
